Psychotherapy in Washington, DC Area

what I Do:

I offer confidential individual psychotherapy to adults of all ages and diverse backgrounds.  In addition to working individually with adults ages 18 and up through the elder years, I also work with couples seeking to improve their relationship or marriage, and I offer family therapy with adult family members, as well as group therapy.  I do both short-term therapy work that focuses on a particular problem and longer-term work with those who want to live a more examined life.  I use a psychodynamic approach to psychotherapy, which means that through talk therapy, self-reflection and insight-oriented work, we come to a deeper understanding of one’s emotional life, negative patterns, and the roots of one’s emotional suffering.  We use that knowledge to process difficult life experiences that have brought a person into therapy.  And we find new approaches to life and relationships that allow people to meet their future goals and find a more satisfying way to live.

what I work on with clients:

My clients tend to come to therapy when they are stuck in a problem, or in a difficult life transition, or are seeking goals for the future that thus far have been elusive.  People often come to sort out problems in their relationships, in their family life, in their workplace or at times when life’s challenges can be daunting.  We often work on such problems as: anxiety, life’s stressors, depression, relationship unhappiness, workplace conflicts, low self-esteem, problems in one’s original family or early life, marital and premarital concerns, separation/divorce, parenting issues, work-family balance, reproductive/infertility problems, postpartum distress, trauma, grief, bereavement and loss.

With whom I work:

My practice includes all kinds of professionals, as well as retirees, military personnel, university students and stay-at-home parents.  I specialize in working with lawyers, doctors and government officials.  I see many people who work on Capitol Hill and in the surrounding areas.   I work with a multicultural array of adult clients of all ages, races, religions, ethnicities and sexual orientations.

where i work:

I do much of my work these days via teletherapy on a HIPAA-compliant platform called Thera-link, which is confidential and easy to use and an efficient use of time.  I also have an office for in-person sessions which is convenient to Van Ness, Dupont Circle, Bethesda/Chevy Chase, and downtown.  I have an auxiliary office on Capitol Hill.
